Iceland Geothermal, part of the Iceland Renewable Energy Cluster, will be hosting the World Geothermal Congress 2020 (WGC 2020).
Due to the covid-19 situation, WGC 2020 was postponed and will now take place May 21-26, 2021.
The city of Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital is the host city of the World Geothermal Congress and Exhibition. A modern and thriving city, it is fuelled by geothermal energy for its heating and electricity needs providing a unique location for the geothermal world to meet.
The World Geothermal Congress and Exhibition will be held at Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre, one of Reykjavik’s most stunning and distinguished landmarks. Sitting on the waterfront of the old harbour area in the heart of the city, Harpa features breathtaking views of The North Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding mountain ridges. The building is one of Reykjavik‘s most environmentally friendly and has won numerous awards and prizes such as the Mies van der Rohe architectural award in 2013.
In the city itself and in close proximity are some of the Iceland’s key geothermal resources, infrastructure and power stations giving delegates of the congress a unique opportunity to experience geothermal energy use in all its forms nearby.
ABOUT THE RENEWABLE ENERGY CLUSTER
The Cluster, represents the energy sector in Iceland and has on average more than 50 members that together manage the energy resources of the country. The Iceland Geothermal initiative is part of the Iceland Renewable Energy Cluster.
