The Iceland Renewable Energy Cluster

The Iceland Renewable Energy Cluster is the joint platform for companies and institutions that take part in the Iceland energy sector and is covering the whole value chain. The main role of the cluster is to increase the competitiveness of its members and its society and represent what its member has to offer.

The cluster organization was founded formally 15th of February 2013. After several years of mapping and implementation, it started as a geothermal energy cluster - Iceland Geothermal. In the year of 2018, it was expanded to all energy sources in Iceland covering: geothermal, hydropower, wind power and X-Power.

The Member of the cluster comes from the whole value chain, from explorations to utilization. Organizations like power producers, developers and research, different kind of service providers like consulting companies, manufacturing-, maintenance- and service companies, academia and public entities. The energy cluster represents all stakeholders of the energy sector value chain.

With a strong focus on collaboration, knowledge sharing and development, the organization set up all kinds of activities to improve innovation within the field leading to stronger competitiveness and value creation, both locally and globally.

Our Mission is to

  • Be a visible and common advocate for the Icelandic energy sector domestically and abroad.
  • Communicate the image that the members of the co-operation support at any given time.
  • Work with the government on transformations related to the nation's climate commitments.
  • Maintain knowledge and the development of knowledge in the energy sector.
  • Draw attention to the country's uniqueness and the importance of the interaction of different energy sources to meet the challenges of the future.
  • Lead large-scale projects with the government.
