Powerful General Assembly this morning– Sigurður Atli Jónsson Elected New Chair

The Annual General Meeting of the Iceland Renewable Energy Cluster took place this morning at the headquarters of Verkís. The meeting was well-attended by its members, representing the entire value chain of energy-related activities. The gathering marked a significant milestone, with a review of the main projects from the past year, upcoming priorities, and the future vision of the cluster platform.

Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Climate, addressed the meeting, highlighting the importance of collaboration and innovation in transforming the energy system. He thanked IREC for its the cooperation in supporting energy sector development and enhancing the industry’s competitiveness.

Rósbjörg Jónsdóttir, Managing Director of the Energy Cluster, provided an update on the cluster's current status and future direction, clearly demonstrating the growing impact of collaboration within the platform.

The cluster’s Annual Report 2024 is now available, offering insights into last year’s successful collaborations and an overview of the ambitious projects ahead.

A new Board of Directors was elected at the meeting. Sigurður Atli Jónsson, CEO of Arctic Europe, was elected as the new Chair of the Energy Cluster for the 2025–2027 term. 
He succeeds Árni Magnússon, who has served with great dedication since 2021 and has played a key role in strengthening cooperation and competitiveness within the energy sector for several years.

“There is strong consensus on the importance of working across sectors and leveraging the cluster methodology as a driver for progress. We face the challenges of the future with a solutions-oriented mindset and a focus on innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness,” the meeting’s joint statement declared.

The IREC will continue to lead impactful initiatives in 2025, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and support for a sustainable energy transition.
